Recently, the ultimate Rolls-Royce Phantom was launched. This a 7th series model, coming out after 13 years from the first to appear on the market.
Actually, a collector of English models ordered this new model. The theme is inspired by the Trans Oceanic from the 1930’s. Naturally, once an old chapter ended, a new one needs to begin. And this is the story of introducing the 8th series of Rolls-Royce Phantom.
Thus, the producers announced a new event on July 27, in Mayfar, London. Hereby, “The Eight Great Phantoms” event will present eight of the rarest and most iconic versions of its long living Phantom.
The first thing about this model is that it will be built on a MEB platform, which makes it lighter. Thus, this MEB modular platform under the skin is an aluminium space-frame architecture, set to be shortened from this LWB Phantom for use in the SUV. BMW’s expertise will likely bring carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) to help keep weight down further. Hence, the reduced weight of the new model will allow bringing out a hybrid on the market with larger batteries. However, at this moment an exclusively electric car is not ready to get on the market just yet.
Secondly, Rolls-Royce confirmed that there will be no new versions of Phantom Coupe and Phantom Drophead Coupe as they dropped this models. Still, the platform on new Rolls-Royce Phantom will serve as a premiere for the British producer, under the patronage of BMW. Thus, they prepare a luxury SUV Rolls Royce Cullinan to compete with Bentley Bentayga.
The new Rolls Royce Phantom will be available in the standard version, which is 5.85 m long. Also, the 6 m “Extended Wheelbase” version is available. The latter will provide more comfort for the back seat passengers.
What are the main attributes of Rolls-Royce Phantom?
As far as the engine is concerned, the new generation of the Rolls-Royce Phantom is powered by a specially tuned V12 twin turbocharger with a displacement of 6.6 liters. This means that the times of the previous generation’s engine are over. The supercharged twelve-cylinder engine promises even more power at low engine speeds. Also, it offers a significantly higher peak output of more than 600 hp. Thus, this feature translates the superiority of the phantom into a consistent driving performance.
Also, this new model wishes to revolutionize the design. The surface is more muscular, especially the rear. It features LED headlights and front bumper air curtains. These attributes add some freshness and modernity to it. The bluff nose, the vast bonnet, the steeply rakes windscreen are also important elements for an original car.
On the other hand, side-on, it looks taller than you might expect, while the rear-hinged back doors remain. Look closely at the roof and you’ll see the shark-fin antenna from the BMW 7 Series, while the rear window shape and bootlid profile is more sloping than ever.
Also, the new model borrowed some safety elements from the 7th series BMW and the entertainment devices.
If you wonder about the price, well, you need to save some serious money. It will surely get to 450.000 dollars.
