Victor Demarchelier followed on his father’s footsteps, Patrick Demarchelier. The fashion photographer seemed to inherit the fashion photography genes. His work uses simple concepts in order to make big statements. He shoots for a variety of the best fashion magazines in the world and has established himself as one of the greatest fashion photographers to ever live.
Victor Demarchelier was born and raised in New York City, the youngest son of legendary photographer Patrick Demarchelier. He graduated in 2006 from Vassar, where he studied economics and studio art. After that, Victor was employed by his father, working daily in the studio and learning the techniques of the photographic art.
Demarchelier Jr. blazed his own trail when he made the shooting for the scarlet-lipped Naomi Watts for the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Australia. The erotic girl-on-girl shots for Interview or artsy black-and-white still-life portraits for his solo exhibitions.
Even as a student, Victor didn’t quite knew what was the field he wanted to work in.
“I knew I wanted to do something creative. I initially was interested in architecture.”
While studying at Vassar College, he focused on printmaking. He still makes statements about his father helping him out “it was a great way to meet people in the industry”.
“I enjoy shooting everyone. It’s the variety of personalities that makes this job exciting.”

“I remember being on a shoot for British Vogue in St Barths when I was quite young. My father asked me to jump in the model’s lap. That picture was eventually used for the cover.”
His editorial and ad campaigns were for names like Vogue Russia, Avon, Saks Fifth Avenue, Interview Magazine, Victoria’s Secret, Vogue China, Vogue Germany, Vogue Nippon, Vogue Spain, Vogue France, GQ, Harpers Bazaar USA, Harper’s Bazaar UK, 25, V Magazine and Wonderland.

You should know that his most memorable project he has worked on includes Magazine Antidote‘s Paris Issue, from 2013, in which Victor Demarchelier had a striking mix of photos with moody topless models smoking and posing with thin cigarettes, models in red trenches and fishnets overlooking the River Seine and much more controversial ones.
“I love fashion, I love the fantasy, I love the people in the industry… I love everything about it.”
